Wednesday 4th January - Windsurf ** River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods.

Fin – 28.44 knot max, 24.42 knot ave., 8.71 knot hour, 20.03 knot mile, 19.45 km., 8.78 knot alpha.

F2 Zantos 295 with 36 fin and Tushingham Storm 5.2m.

The wind just keeps on blowing, I was not sure about today with a WSW wind gusting supposedly to 40 knots and with the tides on the River Orwell not ideal I was tempted to give it a miss today but with temperatures of 13 degrees and some sunshine it was too good not to try. So, I headed over to Levington Marina arriving around 10.15 with loads of water and a very strong wind so after a couple of foiling sessions this year decided to give the fin a try setting up my bigger 133lt board as better handling the gusty conditions here, I nearly rigged 6m but went for my 5.2. WSW is not ideal being particularly gusty and the river was lumpy which improved slightly as the tide dropped. Again, I had to walk around the marina to find someone to zip me in my wetsuit and I headed out around 11 with some huge gusts and going fast in the lumpy water was impossible but you could sail long diagonal runs across the corner, landing just past the entrance to Trimley Creek. I was nervous with the tide going out but there were enough gusts to always get back to the launch beach:) Conditions improved as the tide dropped and I was pleased to get 28 knots with an OK mile considering the gusty winds. So, I was pleased to get out but I needed to pack-up, shower and get home for a wonderful cuddle with the new Granddaughter Arlo who spent a lovely afternoon at our house, her first visit here:)
